Section 504 vs IEP: What Schools Must Know
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act protects students with disabilities from discrimination in any school receiving federal financial assistance. Unlike an IEP (Individualized Education Program) under IDEA, a 504 plan does not require a student to have a qualifying disability under a specific category — it only requires that a physical or mental impairment substantially limits one or more major life activities.
Schools frequently make procedural errors that invalidate 504 plans: determining eligibility without a multi-disciplinary team, failing to provide parents with written notice of procedural safeguards, or not conducting periodic re-evaluations. The OCR (Office for Civil Rights) investigates hundreds of 504 complaints annually — and inadequate procedural documentation is among the most common findings.
UniCloud360 includes accommodation management, plan documentation, re-evaluation scheduling, and audit trails for 504 and IEP compliance.

Trusted by lecturers and students across Sri Lankan universities
"The procedural safeguards section caught something we had been doing wrong for years — we weren't documenting team composition. This tool is now part of every annual 504 review cycle."
"We ran 30 active 504 plans through this checker in a single afternoon. Found compliance gaps in 8 of them. Worth every minute — the remediation checklist made the fixes obvious."
"The eligibility step correctly separates the evaluation requirements from the plan requirements. Most tools conflate them. This one handles the legal distinction properly."
"Our district was preparing for an OCR review. This tool helped us identify and fix three procedural gaps before the auditors arrived. The printable report was submitted as evidence of remediation."
