Free Student Travel Time Estimator

Estimate realistic school travel time using route distance, speed, traffic, stops, boarding time, and a configurable arrival buffer.

Runs in your browser · No login · No journey data uploaded Try Free Travel Time Estimator →

The Travel Time Estimator supports student transport management system planning by turning a route distance into a practical journey estimate. It separates driving, traffic, scheduled stops, boarding, and safety buffer time so transport teams and families can understand the full commute rather than relying on an ideal driving time alone.

02
Include practical delays

Common Questions

Travel Time Estimator FAQ

How does the Travel Time Estimator calculate journey time?
It divides route distance by average speed, adds a traffic percentage, then adds scheduled-stop time, initial boarding time, and an arrival safety buffer.
What average speed should I enter?
Use a realistic average that includes normal road conditions for the route. Urban school routes are often much slower than the posted speed limit.
How is the recommended departure time calculated?
The estimator subtracts the total practical journey time from the target arrival time entered in the form.
Can I include multiple pickup stops?
Yes. Enter the number of scheduled stops and the average time spent at each stop to include them in the result.
Can schools use this with a student transport management system?
Yes. The result can support route planning and communication before approved schedules are recorded in a student transport management system.
Does this use live traffic or mapping data?
No. It uses the assumptions you enter and runs locally in the browser. Confirm the route with live mapping and transport staff separately.
