Common Questions

Free Award Amount Estimator — FAQ

What is a scholarship award amount estimator?
A scholarship award amount estimator calculates how much scholarship money a student would receive based on a programme's rules — such as a fixed sum, a percentage of tuition, or a GPA-tiered band — and shows the resulting net cost and multi-year totals.
What calculation methods does this tool support?
Three methods: Fixed Award (all recipients get the same annual amount), Percentage of Tuition (award = tuition × a set percentage), and Tiered by GPA (award amount is determined by which grade band the student's GPA falls into). Each method produces an annual award, net cost, and programme totals.
How does the GPA tier method work?
You define up to six grade tiers — each with a GPA range (e.g. 3.7–4.0) and a corresponding award amount. Enter the student's GPA and the tool matches them to the appropriate tier. If their GPA falls outside all tiers, the result shows no award for this programme.
Can I use this tool for non-GPA grading scales?
Yes — the GPA scale selector supports 4.0, 5.0, 10.0, and 100% scales. You can enter tier ranges using whichever scale matches your institution's grading system.
How do I export the results?
Click Download PDF for a formatted single-page report with the year-by-year breakdown, or Export CSV for a spreadsheet-compatible file with all annual rows — useful for batch planning across multiple students.
Who is this tool for?
Scholarship administrators modelling award programmes, financial aid officers comparing disbursement methods, students estimating what they might receive, and school counsellors advising families on the financial impact of scholarship awards.
