Understanding Late Arrival Tracking

1

Punctuality Rate

Punctuality Rate (%) =
((Total Days – Late Days) ÷ Total Days) × 100

Measures the percentage of days a student arrived on time. A rate above 95% is excellent; below 85% warrants a formal review or parent notification.

2

Tardiness Classification

Acceptable → < 50% of threshold
Warning → 50–99% of threshold
Critical → ≥ 100% of threshold

Thresholds vary by institution — commonly 3–5 late arrivals per term. Exceeding the threshold typically triggers a formal parent notification or intervention.

3

Cumulative Late Minutes

Total Late Minutes =
Σ (Arrival Time − School Start Time)
across all late entries

Research shows that 10 late arrivals of 15 minutes each equals 2.5 hours of missed instruction — a significant academic risk factor that compounds over the year.
